1. Interview with Royce Flippin. In the Mid 70's
there was one name in distance running when it concerned
Mercer County- Royce Flippin. For his last 3 years
Royce Flippin dominated Mercer County and took his name
on the road racing such legends as Alberto Salazar and
Kevin Byrne. Royce went on to run at Princeton
University (still on the All-Time List for the indoor 2
Mile) and is now a successful editor and free lance writer
in New York City.

2. Interview with
Kevin Byrne. As a sophomore at Bergen Catholic Byrne
established himself as a potential great. As a
junior and senior at Paramus Catholic Kevin sent his
running career into orbit. As a senior Kevin ran a
still-standing record of 4:08 on the Madison Square
Garden's 11 lap / mile track, weeks later he set the
former state 2 mile record of 8:59.7 ( a record broken
by our own Brian Leung). Kevin went on to run at
Georgetown University. Mr. Byrne's son is now a
standout freshman at Red Bank Catholic.
